[Lol, a new name for you Speckles...]
A leopard-patterned gray shape moved swiftly across the wild open moor. The cat paused to taste the air; cautious as always. Satisfied that all was well, she sat down on a small clump of soft yellow grass, her tail-tip twitching ever so slightly. Spottedstar's hazel coloured eyes scanned the surrounding land. She'd asked her new apprentice, Badgerpaw, to meet her at this spot. The Windclan leader was certain that it wouldn't be a long wait.

Badgerpaw ran through the forest, frantic to get to her first training session on time. Even though she was running at such a frenzied pace she made only the slightest noise. With a growl she disentangled herself from a vine that she had rashly jumped through and gotten caught in, and then she charged onward. Great, just great, looks like you're gonna be late for you training. Wonderful Badgerpaw. She stuck her ears back and then came to the meeting place.
Just before she entered Spottedstar's view though she slowed down and licked her pelt to smooth it before walking placidly out into Spottedstar's view. She had always prided herself on not being in a hurry any time because she was such a good planner, but now she had broken that rule. She smiled weakly at Spottedstar, 'Sorry if I'm late.' She mumbled, clearly embarrased.

"You're not; don't worry", was Spottedstar's reply. "I was late quite a lot for the time, Smokeheart and I would go after a rabbit and get destracted...." The leader's voice trailed off, her eyes showing the familiar grief that came with happy memories of her sister. "Anyway", she continued, pushing the memories away, "I thought we'd practice some fighting moves. Then I can have a look at how your hunting skills are shaping up."

Badgerpaw nodded. 'That sounds good to me.' She mewed quietly, trembling in excitement, finally she could perfect her skills. She shook her white pelt, flicking her grey tail over the ground as she did so. Then she looked carefully at Spottedstar with her yellow green eyes, keeping her paws light on the ground. A fly buzzed around her ears and she shook her head, which had two grey stripes next to each of the ears. She couldn't wait to start despite the annoying bug.

Spottedstar crouched down with her body close to the ground, her tail lashing from side to side. "Try to pounce on me", she instructed her apprentice. The bengal she-cat began to weave back and forth, slowly drifting away from Badgerpaw. She had quite a few tricks up and sleeve and she too was exited to begin the training session.

Badgerpaw grinned. 'Okay!' She crouched, and edged a little closer to Spottedstar. Then she jumped for her, front paws outstretched and ready to catch herself if her mentor should move. Her eyes were bright in excitement, she hoped to please her mentor, make her proud, make her glad that she had chosen to mentor Badgerpaw.

Spottedstar's eyes gleamed mischievously, making her look like a young warrior again. At the last possible moment she ducked to one side, but not quite quickly enough. She felt Badgerpaw hit her dappled shoulder as she moved to one side. The leader blinked dust out of her eyes before standing up and giving her coat a good shake. "That was well done Badgerpaw", Spottedstar meowed. "But I'm not doing so well at the moment." She laughed out loud. "It's been a while since I had an apprentice."

Badgerpaw blushed under her smooth pelt at her mentor's praise. 'Thank you Spottedstar.' She smiled. She was glad that she was doing good. She twitched her tail and waited for further instruction, for she was the kind of cat that didn't just jump up and do something for fear of messing up. Messing up was one of her worst fears, for she wanted to be perfect, though she knew that she was not yet. She hoped to be now though, for how couldn't she be if she had the leader as a mentor? She could be perfect at last! That was her dream

"Okay", meowed Spottedstar, putting on a business-like tone. "Try to hit me again. But remember that I'm not going to make this easy for you. Experiment with different techniques; try to guess what I'm going to do next. See if you can surprise me." Spottedstar sat down and wrapped her tail around her body. The she-cat's amber eyes remained fixed on her apprentice. She looked quite relaxed, but really her muscles were tense, ready to move out of the way of attack.

Badgerpaw blinked and then looked at Spottedstar. She crouched and twitched the end of her tail before jumping at her mentor. She wasn't sure if she was doing the right thing but she wanted to at least try. She kept her legs stuck out carefully, ready to catch herself if she missed. Her

Spottedstar made sure that she got the timing right this time. Once Badgerpaw was almost upon her, she dodged to one side, putting up a spotted paw to trip her apprentice. This was a trick that she liked to do a lot, but she hadn't practiced it out of battle at all since she'd become a leader. It was a great opportunity to polish up her fighting moves, as well as training up an apprentice at the same time. It's like killing two birds with the one stone, the she-cat thought to herself.

Badgerpaw felt herself falling but caught herself at the last moment, though her nose still bumped the ground rather uncomfortably. She stood up and made as if she were going to jump at Spottedstar again but this time she stopped short and jumped to the side, swatting at her mentor from the side. She hoped that she was proving herself to be worthy of her mentor, she didn't want to let Spottedstar down, especially since she was the leader. It made her want to work harder, and she was up to the challenge.

"Nice move!", meowed Spottedstar, dodging a couple of Badgerpaw's blows. She leaped this way and that, never staying still. "If you keep moving around, you confuse your attacker", she explained. "You just have to make sure that you keep your eyes on them at all times. It's nearly impossible to tell when they're going to try to pull off a trick or two on you."

Badgerpaw nodded in aknowledgment to Spottedstar's words. She drank them in, wanting to be the best warrior possible. Her eyes tried their best to keep track of the bouncing mentor, finding it harder than she had thought it would be to watch her. She smiled a little and then darted towards her mentor again. She found that she was starting to enjoy this, she had thought that she would be horribly nervous in training, mostly because her mentor had ended up being Spottedstar, but she was glad to find that it was not as bad as she had thought it would be.

The leader bounded up and aimed a few blows at Badgerpaw's face. The temptation to unsheathe her claws was strong, but she forced herself to keep them out of harms way. Spottedstar knew that a battle would greet her clan sooner or later, but until then, she'd have to make the best of practicing. and training up Badgerpaw, the dappled she-cat added to herself. She darted away from her apprentice again, her tail streaming out behind her.
