“Helga Pataki.”
Helga Pataki, a once hideous little girl with a unibrow, now walked up on stage to accept her high school diploma. Who would have guessed, but Helga was going to college for her teaching degree. Accepting her diploma, she walked off stage and sat next to her best friend, Arnold. You see, once they had gotten past their fourth grade years, Helga and Arnold became best friends. Arnold needed one since Gerald moved to Chicago.
Arnold squeezed her hand and said,
“Congrats!”
What Arnold was unaware of, was the deep shade of red Helga’s face turned. Helga hadn’t gotten over her fourth grade crush, which now had turned into a deep passionate love. Today was the day Helga was finally going to admit her feelings, and this time no excuses.
Once the entire 12th grade graduates had accepted their diplomas, they all through their caps in the air.
“Arnold. I need to-”
Just then their old friend Sid walked up and pulled Arnold toward a group of guys.
Crap! Every time I need to tell him something, someone interrupts! This is ridiculous.
Phoebe, another old friend of theirs, walked up to Helga. Phoebe was the only other person on the planet that knew about Helga’s undying love for Arnold. And with Helga’s bad luck, it might stay that way.
“Did you tell him?”
“No, do you see me crying?”
Phoebe laughed.
“If he has half a brain, he’ll realize something Helga. He’ll realize that you’re the girl for him.”
Just then Helga heard Arnold calling her name. Taking a deep breath, she turned and walked to him.
“Helga guess what?”
“What?”
“Rhonda and I are going out next Saturday!”
Helga felt tears well up in her eyes. Trying to shake them off before they cascaded down her face, she whispered,
“That’s great, Arnold.”
“Yeah, she’ll be with Sid, and you’ll be with me. Like a double date.”
Helga looked up.
“What?”
“I said like a double date. This…is…my way of asking you out.”
Helga nearly passed out and died.
“I would like nothing more.”
So...what did ya think?
