Melody
For Shadowstar;;
"I said no!" The aggitated vocals of the black and white she cat spat out. "Pleeeeease?" The tiny kit besides her begged. "No!" She retorted, exhaling sharply. "But I wanna be an apprentice!" The young cat pleaded. "For the last time, I said no! For Starclan's sake." She growled, and picked up her pace and left the kitten behind. She made her way over to the fresh-kill pile and selected a tiny vole. She sighed and bent down, tail tucked underneath her as she ripped into the animal.
Earlier today, the tiny kitten had started following her. It hadn't stopped since! She had finally gotten sick of it and snapped at it. Shaking her head, Nightpelt stared at the vole. Suddenly she lost her appitite.
Shadow
A large, muscular frame stood in hearing range, and listened intently on the conversation.
Shadowstar sauntered over, laughing, with amusement evident in his aqua colored eyes.
"Am I interrupting anything?" he teased. Today he was in high spirits, and rather in a playful mood. In fact... he was almost, not quite, acting immature, for a Clan Leader that is.
He stopped, and glanced over at the young kit.
"You'd better get back to the nursery, before you really anger Nightpelt." he leaned over, and whispered something into the kit's ear.
"You don't want to know what she does to little kits who misbehave."
Melody
The kitten's eyes grew wide as the black leader approched him. When he bent down to whisper into it's ear, it squeaked and scurried off into the nursery, believeing him. Nightpelt flicked an ear in acknowledgement. "It's truely a mystery to me how anyone thinks those annoying balls of fur are cute." She growled, shaking her head again. She was in a bad mood, since she heard some elders sharing stories about Mistyfur.
Shadow
The dark Leader watched the kit scamper away, a smile formed across his maw. But as he turned to Nightpelt, the smile vanished.
Shadowstar flicked his ears.
"Well, you seem agitated at something." he remarked, wondering what in the world was wrong with Nightpelt.
Hmmm... she's usually a little prickly toward kits, but not like that.
Before Nightpelt could reply, he blurted out,
"Are you okay?" His eyes searched her gaze, looking for any clues.
Melody
"Perhaps that's because I am agitated." She snapped, flicking her tail. She sighed. "Sorry." Nightpelt looked around her quickly, seeing no one but them, she turned around back to face Shadowstar. He was the only one who knew the truth about how her parents died, and she wanted to keep it that way. "I heard the elders telling the kits stories about my mother, and the little one that followed me started calling me Mistyfur... You know how that one can be, always confused and calling cats the wrong names..." She said, eyes clouded over with grief.
Shadow
Shadowstar moved over to Nightpelt's side, and gently let his tail drape across her shoulder.
"I understand how it must feel. But look on the good side. The Elders only tell the stories, to show the kits the legend that your mother and father left behind. They kept RiverClan strong for many moons, and brought us though many rough times. It is only right that they should be honored still today." he tried to cheer her up.
"I know you must feel very pained, because of the kit... but you know, that only goes to show you... that that kit looks up to you. If he's getting your name confused with a lengendary Deputy." He smiled brightly, his eyes shining with understanding for her. His own parent's deaths still felt fresh in his mind, after all these moons.
Melody
Nightpelt sighed and looked at her paws. The she cat leaned against Shadowstar for a moment, trying to comfort him too. She knew him well enough to know what he was thinking about. "Did you know either of them?" She asked. He was a few moons older than she was, so he might have talked to them once or twice. They were taken from her when she was only a newborn kitten. She was adopted by another fea in the nursery, but it was never the same.
Shadow
For some reason, Shadowstar felt pleased when her fur touched his, but he pusuhed the feelings away.
"Ahhh. I was newly Shadowfire then... and I remembered being awed by your mother's skills. She was deputy under my father, Shiningstar. I admired both of them. But my mother died soon after I was a warrior, and my father went insane. It was your mother who kept the Clan together... my father surely could have destroyed RiverClan. Be proud of your mother always.. she was an amazing cat." he told her, staring directly in her eyes.
Melody
Nightpelt looked at her paws again. Pride beamed from her of her mother. But also she felt a stab of pain for Shadowstar. "It's strange how your father was a leader, and now you are one. And my mother was a deputy, and now I am one." She wondered aloud, eyes looking at him.
Shadow
Shadowstar smiled.
"Yes. Yes it is." He murmered, in a trance almost. He was hooked by her eyes.
He shook his head, and hoped he hadn't seemed too disturbing.
What is it about her eyes, when she's so thoughtful?
He stood and stretched, giving a little groan as he looked at the fresh kill pile.
"Seems the Clan got hungry while we talked." he purred.
Melody
"Well do you want to go hunting?" Nightpelt asked, looking at the fresh kill pile again. She let out a soft sigh, trying to get over her parents for a couple of minutes. It just wasn't fair. She would never say this to Shadowstar, but their deaths were mostly Shiningstar's fault. If he had never sent them that way into the forest, they might still be with her. Her ears drooped a little at the thought.
Shadow
Shadowstar twitched his tail. He sensed there was something on her mind that she wasn't expressing. But he decided to not goad her into to saying anything... sometimes, cats held their tongues for reasons... and he was sure that Nightpelt would surely tell him if it was important.
"Yes, let's go hunting, and try to be back by sunhigh... I have duties to attend to." he let out a long sigh here. The Clan work never seemed to end.
He scanned the area, looking for a trusty Warrior. He spotted Lionheart eating only a few tail lengths away.
Shadowstar padded over to his side, and prodded him playfully.
"Lionheart, I need you to send out the patrols this morning. Make sure there are 2 warriors at all times in Camp, with a few apprentices. And do-"
"I know, I know Shadowstar. I've done this a million times." Lionheart flicked his tail happily.
Shadowstar nodded gratefully, and walked back to Nightpelt.
Melody
Nightpelt let out a soft mrow of amusement at Lionheart and nudged Shadowstar on the shoulder. "Where do you want to go?" She asked. Just as long as it isn't near two-legs, she thought bitterly. She flicked her tail and started out of the camp, not looking to see if he was coming, but knowing he would.
Shadow
Shadowstar nodded.
"Let's go to the Hidden Falls. We should be able to catch a fair amount of fish this time of morning."
He padded off after her, his mind focusing on this morning's conversation with Nightpelt. He had never seen her so distraught really, but maybe that was because he never paid attention.
He followed her quickly, directing hismelf towards the Hidden Falls.
