Spottedstar leaped onto the leader's slope, summoning her clan with a sharp yowl. "Let all cats old enough to gather their own prey gather to welcome a new apprentice!" Her voice echoed through out the camp.

Lillykit groaned as Spottedstar's call reached her in the medicine cat's den. She knew who it was for; Spottedstar had mentioned that she would hold the ceremony today. Although Lillykit was exited to become a medicine cat apprentice at last, she was highly nervous about all the attention that she would receive in the process.
The white kit forced herself out of the den, sitting on the sidelines with her head buried in her chest fur. She felt as if someone was staring at her. Looking up, she saw Spottedstar's stern gaze fixed on her. You've got to go through with this, the leader's eyes were saying. Move to the middle where cats can see you.
Lillykit grudgingly obeyed her leader's unspoken command. She got up and plodded to the centre of the clearing. As she did so, Birchfur came out of the warrior's den. He padded over to Lillykit, nudging her as he sat down. "Everything alright?" he asked. No reply.

Ebonyheart walkd quickly to the small spot where her Clan would gather to listen to their leader.
Hmm, I wonder who it is... she thought half smiling, and glancing over at Lillykit. Ebonyheart felt it strange to not have Rainwhisker or Waterheart there with the Clan, not that she was close to either of them, but they had always been there. She wondered how they were doing now. SHe flicked her glance back up to Spottedstar, and awaited her speech.

Snowshoe smiled as she trotted briskly out to the rock. She sat down near Lillykit after giving her an encouraging lick. She wrapped her short tail as far around her as she could and looked up at Spottedstar.
Brownpaw, Tigerpaw, and Quickpaw all leapt quickly out of the apprentices' den. They raced playfully towards the rock, giggling and jostling each other at every step. Quickpaw, true to her name, got there first and skidded neatly to a stop. Tigerpaw was close behind her and he pulled himself to a stop close behind her. Brownpaw, with a mischevious grin, didn't stop, but went crashing into his two friends. They all fell into a squirming giggling heap before picking themselves up and sitting down. They grinned and shoved each other, whispering jokes and bursting into laughter again.
Badgerpaw followed the other apprentices quietly out of the den. She padded over to the rock and sat down near the back, giving her sleek coat a quick lick and looking up at Spottedstar. I wonder who is becoming an apprentice. she thought to herself quietly.
Ashpelt walked leisurely up to the rock and sat down. She glanced around at the other cats, scanning the crowd for the apprentice to be. Her gaze rested on Lillykit and she nodded. I bet that's the one.

Windfleet stalked out of the warriors den, walking carefully around the playing apprentices. Making her way to the front of the group, she sat and watched her leader. Smiling slightly at Lillykit, she let her attention wander until Spottedstar would start to speak. There was Ashpelt and Birchfur. There was the three giggling apprentices, Quickpaw, Tigerpaw, and Brownpaw. Sitting near the back was Badgerpaw, and in the midst of the cats she could see Ebonyheart. Wrapping her tail around herself, she turned her attention back to Spottedstar and the apprentice ceremony.

Spottedstar waited patiently on Highrock, licking a forepaw to wash her face. She blinking encouraging to Lillykit below, knowing that the kit would be fine. - - - - - Birchfur didn't bother nudging Lillykit again. It was clear that she was nervous. Must be her ceremony he resolved. He didn't know why the kit was this petrified though. After all, every kit was apprenticed someday. Perhaps it something else, although Birchfur could never see Lillykit getting into trouble with Spottedstar... |

Tigerpaw, Quickpaw, and Brownpaw all looked at Lillykit. 'I bet she's the apprentice!' Quickpaw whispered. 'What's she look so nervous for?' Tigerpaw whispered back, clearly puzzled. Brownpaw sniffed carefully, straining his good ear towards her. 'Where is she?' he asked. 'Is that her right there?' he flicked his tail towards her. Quickpaw nodded, she knew of Brownpaw's unseeing eyes, as did Tigerpaw. Brownpaw nodded and trotted over to Lillykit carefully, relying on his whiskers to guide him through the cats. As he neared Lillykit he sat down with a grin. 'Howdy!' he mewed in his goofiest voice. 'I'm Brownpaw the silly, over there sits Quickpaw the quick, and Tigerpaw the hunter.' he nodded towards his friends importantly. 'Near the back sits Badgerpaw the silent.' he grinned as he tasted the air. 'Now you, soon to be Lillypaw, what would you like your last name to be? I do hope that we don't have another 'the silent'.' he nudged her and bent his head to whisper quietly. 'You know what? Badgerpaw didn't pick her name, we picked it for her 'cause she's so quiet all the time and wouldn't say what she wanted her last name to be.' He let out out a giggle.

Lillykit pasted a smile on her face. Why did he have to come over to me? she thought angrily, not having the heart to tell him that her path twisted sharply away from his. She wouldn't even sleep in the apprentice's den, instead curling up in the medicine cat's corner. She forced these thoughts out of her mind. She had to speak to him somehow. "I don't know, really", she meowed, answering Brownpaw's question about her name. "I'm fine with whatever Snowshoe chooses for me." Lillykit's blood seemed to turn to ice. She'd said the wrong thing. Now it was obvious that she was becoming a medicine cat apprentice. - - - - - Spottedstar felt like screaming at the two apprentices. Why did Brownpaw have to ask unnecessary questions? Why did Lillykit have to be so shy? I'll rescue her this time, thought Spottedstar, but next time she's got to do it herself.Deciding that enough of the clan were present, the leader began to speak. "Snowshoe", she meowed. "I believe you have something you wish to say to the clan." [Yes, the medicine cat announces it. Go Snowshoe  ] |

Brownpaw stared at Lillykit for a moment, confused, and then he grinned. ' Oh I get it! You're gonna be the medicine cat apprentice! That's cool!' he grinned again and nudged her playfully. ' We can still talk sometimes though, that is if you want to.' he hesitated as he saw Snowshoe bound up to the front. He turned his attention to her, flicking his brown tail in interest. Finally Snowshoe'll have someone to help her out!' he thought to himself. Snowshoe looked at Lillykit with a smile before turning her blue eyes on the other cats. ' As you all know, there has been no medicine cat apprentice thus far. But there has been someone helping me a lot lately and she has decided to take the path of a medicine cat apprentice. Lillykit has asked to become my apprentice.' Snowshoe looked at Lillykit with a smile as she twitched her short tail. Though Snowshoe didn't exactly like being in front of a group of cats she was happy to announce this. [{okay, I know that looks weird but I'm not really one for making speechs  }] |

Windfleet shot a warm smile at Lillykit, hoping to reassure her, maybe, that being the apprentice of the Medicine Cat was a honor, and that she wasn't different by not choosing to become a warrior. She then shot a glare at the three apprentices for being so tactless and disrupting the meeting before it even began. Turning back to Snowshoe, Lillykit, and Spottedstar, Windfleet gave them back her attention.

Lillykit gave Brownpaw a relieved smile. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Spottedstar flick her tail to summon her forward. The kit rose shakily to her paws and trotted over to her leader. Spottedstar's voice spoke loud and clearly;
"Lillykit, from this day forth, until you have earned your medicine cat name, you will be known as Lillypaw." There was a twinkle in her eye as she spoke. "Snowshoe will be your mentor, and teach you the ways of a medicine cat.
Lillypaw's heart was full of pride as she leaned forward to touch noses with her new mentor. She felt as if Starclan were filling her with courage, urging her to do the best she could through out her long life.

Snowshoe bent down to touch noses with Lillykit, now Lillypaw. 'You did well.' she whispered to her quietly. Her body filled with relief and excitement as her nose touched, she had an apprentice! She sent up a silent thanks to StarClan for Lillypaw. She couldn't wait to take her to moonstone and introduce her to the other medicine cats. Outside she was silent, looking calmly up at Spottedstar, but on the inside she was celebrating. Only her eyes reflected the excitement that she had on the inside.

"Lillypaw! Lillypaw!" Windfleet called out, as was custom, the name of the new apprentice. "Congratulations," she purred in between calls.

Lillypaw felt ready to burst with pride as her gaze swept of her clan. Spottedstar smiled down at her before leaping down to join her. Lillypaw had feared this ceremony, always hating to be centre of attention. However, excitement and joy were the only emotions she felt as she dipped her head to her leader, thanking her for giving her this honer.
"Lillypaw! Lillypaw!!" She heard Birchfur's voice from the front row and Windfleet's mixed in the crowd.

Tigerpaw, Quickpaw, and Brownpaw all joined noisily into the cheering. They enjoyed it quite well and all were trying to yell louder than the other. Badgerpaw called out Lillypaw's new name also but now nearly as loud as the others. She gave them a sideways glance, rather disapproving of their racket. Ashpelt mewed also, she was happy for this new apprentice and her thoughts went back to her own apprentice ceremony. Snowshoe smiled at Lillypaw, she could tell that she was enjoying this.

Lustpaw had been sittting there watching the ceremony, eyes quietly following the going ons. His green eyes fell on the three louder apprentices, and he sighed to himself, being reminded of his two siblings, who were sitting in front of him. Lustpaw's tail twitched as thoughts ran through his head. He would never choose to be a medicine cat apprentice... He would have wanted to fight... And taste blood... He shook his head, trying to clear his mind of the thought of bloodshed.
Legendpaw and Secretpaw sat farther up, Legendpaw glaring at everyone else, and muttering about how these ceremonies were pointless, while Secretpaw just watched happily, grinning.
