Windfleet paced up and down in her leaders den, trying to figure out how she would say what she had seen. Finally, she turned to face her leader. "I've been smelling the occasional scent of crow-food," she began. "It was coming from the moors, and so today I went to check what it was, just in case some cat has been stealing and eating rabbits on our territory. Dewdrop and Birchfur joined me," she said, acknowledging to two warriors who had accompanied her. "We found the source of it. Three dead and rotting rabbits were on the outskirts of the moor. By the scent of them, they had been dead for a while. We scented no unusual animals around that place, but the crow-food smell was so strong we could have easily have missed the faint trace of an animal. We buried the rabbits before we came back, so there would be no chance of any of the Clan stumbling upon it and eating it by mistake, though not even kits could have mistaken that smell for something other than crow-food." Windfleet finished her report, then waited if Spottedstar had any comment to make.

Spottedstar nodded slowly as Windfleet spoke. One the deputy had finished, she spent a few heartbeats thinking. "I thought something would pop up eventually", she meowed hesitantly. "Waterheart and Rainwhisker wouldn't leave without a very good reason. Yet has been no sign of a struggle. Something is linking these incidents together, but I don't know what it is."
Spottedstar raked the bedding with her claws. "I had a dream two nights ago", she murmured. "It was very brief. I saw Smokeheart", the leader added, referring to her sister; deputy before she. "She padded up to me. There was concern on her face, but she said nothing. I woke up after that."

Windfleet was silent as she pondered Spottedstar's dream. "Could she have been trying to warn you of something?" without waiting for an answer Windfleet carried on. "You're right, though. Waterheart and Rainwhisker disappearance may be linked to this. Have you talked to Snowshoe about it?" she asked, once again refering to the dream.

The she-cat sighed. "No", she admitted. "I know what it meant already. Smokeheart was warning me of danger, but it was not the right time to reveal what it is. Starclan will tell me when they believe the secret should be shared. Until then, all we can do is keep our eyes open." Spottedstar rose to her paws, circling the perimeter of the den. Then she looked up at Windfleet. "You are young", she meowed, "but you are wise. I'm glad I chose you as my deputy. We'll need your strength in the days to come." "Perhaps I should visit High-stones", the leader muttered as she sat down again. "Have you anything else to tell me?" she asked Windfleet.

Windfleet smiled slighly when Spottedstar praised her. "I believe we should wait," she said in response to her leader's question. "The animal that is stealing our prey cannot go long without having to hunt again. And when it comes back to WindClan -" she smiled grimly, "We'll be waiting." Glancing back at her leader, she added, "I don't think you should go to Highstones. If StarClan has not told you anything, then they are waiting for the right moment. I for one am not going to go against StarClan's judgement. But do as you see fit." standing up, she said, "I'll go and arrange the patrols and tell them to look out for anything out of place." bowing her head to her leader, Windfleet left the den.

Spottedstar smiled to herself as Windfleet left the den. If could thank Starclan for one thing, it's for giving me a great deputy. The she-cat sank into her bedding, wondering if she should go out. Deciding that some extra fresh-kill would be welcome, she followed Windfleet out of the den. Just as she reached the entrance, she turned back. The messiest spot on the moor is my den!. She shook her head in amusement and padded out into the sunlight.

OOC:// Do you want to go back to the other thread?
BIC:// Suddenly remembering something, she turned back to her leader. "Do you want to talk to Dewdrop and Birchfur? They were with me when I checked out the prey, and in case they discovered something I missed, it might be a good idea."

[ooc] sure]
[bic] "If you think that is necessary, then I will do so." The Bengal she-cat replied, leaving her den for good. The sunlight shined on her leopard-like markings, making them glow like diamonds.
