Autumnstar watched Larchkit and Specklestripe for a long moment before she called out the next name. "Laurelkit," she said. "I call upon my ancestors once again to turn this young kit into an apprentice," she said softly, her great emeraldy-yellowy eyes shining as if they held StarClan. "Laurelkit, you must abandon your name as 'kit' and accept the name of 'paw'. From now on, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Laurelpaw," she added. "Dustfang is a calm and curious warrior, he will mentor you," she meowed.

Dustfang grinned and walked up by Laurelpaw. He didn't expect such an honor. He touched noses with his new apprentice. His yellow eyes shone with happiness as he looked down at his new apprentice. He was ecstatic, he had always wanted an apprentice. He liked Laurelpaw already and wondered if she liked him also.. His short brown fur prickled with excitement as he thought about fun times he might have with the younger cat.

Raindance was happy for the warrior. She really hoped they had fun together! [good luck you two!} She licked her chest and watched the leader.

"Mistkit," she said after quietly observing the two cats together. This would be Dustfang's first apprentice, she knew she had to watch him carefully. She looked at Darkclaw and quickly considered giving him Smallkit as an apprentice but slowly came to the conclusion that he wouldn't want an apprentice. She flicked her tail and finished up. "I call upon my warrior ancestors to watch over this kit, to watch him become an apprentice and in turn become a great warrior. To do this, Mistkit will have to take his first step into apprenticeship. From this day forth, until he has earned his warrior name, Mistkit will become Mistpaw... I will mentor you," she said, locking gazing with the apprentice.

"And last but not least, Smallkit," she said, looking at him. "You need careful guidance to become a warrior but even though you might stumble and trip, even occasionally fall. You will become great," she said, mulling more words over. "To become great, you will need to first go through with your training. Smallkit, from this day forth until you earn your warrior status, you will be known as Smallpaw," she said softly. "Darkfang will mentor you, he will teach you patience and how not to come to gatherings when not told to!" she added, a hint of amusement in her voice.
With that she leapt down from her rock and landed infront of Mistpaw. She bent her neck slightly to touch noses with him. She was quite small herself so she didn't have far to reach but she expected she looked huge to the tom.

"Oh, how I want an apprentice!" whispered Raindance. She wandered back to the warriors den alone and laid down. She wondered when she owuld be able to go on a patrol?

Mistpaw gasped as he heard that he was to be mentored by Autumnstar. His eyes danced with pride and happiness. He touched noses with Autumnstar, misty gray eyes expressing his gratefulness, being clumsy with words anyway. He smiled, feeling shy all of a sudden as the reality of what had just happened sunk in. His paws itched, he wanted to jump and dance, he was so excited. He could think of nothing to say, his tongue felt dry.

[[Dude, Laurelkit is going to be totally jealous of Mistpaw xD]]
Larchpaw heard her name called. Me? she shrunk down, then slowly made herself come up and touch noses with Specklestripe. As she did, she became calmer, and smiled at her new mentor as she went to sit where the apprentices usually sat. Though Larchpaw was not the excitable type, she suddenly felt invigorated, banishing all her worries. She beamed out at the surrounding cats, happy to be alive, and then turned her gaze to her sister, who could hardly keep still.
"Dustfang." What? The newly named Laurelpaw stepped forward to touch noses with the young warrior. I wanted a senior warrior! the thought ran unbidden through her mind, and she shook her head, trying to clear it of such thoughts. At least I have a mentor, she thought to herself. Smiling at Dustfang, she headed over to where Larchpaw was sitting, settling herself beside her sister to watch the rest of the apprentice ceremony. Smallkit... Smallpaw... Darkfang... Mistkit... Mistpaw... Autumnstar... Laurelpaw's eyes flew open. Did she hear that correctly? Mistpaw's mentor would be Autumnstar? Suddenly wrestling with the urge to spring at Mistpaw and sink her claws into his back, Laurelpaw dug her claws into the ground. Why would that puny thing get the Clan leader for his mentor? There was plenty of other good warrior's in camp... why did he get the honor? Laurelpaw didn't understand.
Uh-oh. Larchpaw instinctively glanced at her sister as Mistpaw's mentor was announced. The closeness of their relationship had resulted in their understandment of each other, though the couldn't sense what the other was feeling. Right now, though, Larchpaw recognized all the signs that Laurelpaw was angry. Leaning across to her sister, Larchpaw hissed desperatly in her ear, "Its fine. You have a good mentor. Just because Mistpaw got Autumnstar doesn't mean he's better than you. Calm down!" Larchpaw wasn't even sure Laurelpaw heard her, but slowly her sister began to relax, though still glaring heavily at Mistpaw. "Relax," Larchpaw pleaded again. "Please."

Dustfang had noticed the resistance before Laurelpaw had touched his nose, so he trotted back over to her. "Hey." He said. "I'm sorry i'm not quite what you expected for a mentor, but I promise I will try my very best to make sure you like training." He said hopefully. He had also noticed the jealosy flicker in her eyes when Mistpaw was announced Autumnstar's apprentice and hoped Laurelpaw would accept him. He looked deep into Laurelpaw's eyes.

Smallkit's eyes widened to the size of full moons as Autumnstar spoke his name, the kit's jaw dropping in mid air. He barley held back a stammer of disbelief and a yowl of joy, instead doing a leap in the air before trotting over the Darkfang. Smallpaw's amber eyes gleamed as he leaned forward to touch noses with his new mentor.

Autumnstar looked over and saw Laurelpaw and Larchpaw sitting alone, whispering as they usually did. She gave Mistpaw another smile and said to him. "We'll start training immediately. Go get some fresh-kill for yourself, we'll be going a long way."
She quickly trotted away and walked over to where the two apprentices sat. She dropped down into a laying down position. "You do know that you've both got great mentors?" she said to the two sisiters. She twitched her tail and gently washed her paw. She looked at Laurelpaw, seeing that her claws were embedded in the earth. "There is a reason I didn't want to mentor you, you know," she said, watching Laurelpaw. "You've got loads of confidence and energy, you've got your sister as a friend but Mistpaw is shy. He's not that popular. Think of how great he feels right now! Anyway, Dustfang will teach you how to be patient. With me, you'd only get more restless. You'd expect miracles, or me to teach you to fly because i'm Clan Leader! But don't forget, i'm only a cat too," she said and smiled.

Mistpaw smiled again and then trotted off to get some food as his new mentor had told him. He glanced over at Laurelpaw and cringed a little as he saw the irritation in his eyes. He looked away, pretending that he hadn't seen it. He was still in shock, why him? He knew that he wasn't the best, he wasn't any different than the others. He wondered if they knew that he thought that or if they thought he was gloating on the inside. At the kill pile he took a small mouse and nibbled on it in front of the apprentice den. He was happy, very happy, no cat could change that right now.

Laurelpaw heard Larchpaw tell her to relax, but the words were fuzzy, as if from far away. "What?" she asked her sister, bringing herself back into reality. Before Larchpaw could repeat herself, however, Dustfang approached her again. "I'm sorry I'm not quite what you expected for a mentor, but I promise I will try my very best to make sure you like training." Laurelpaw smiled at Dustfang and attempted to look as if she wasn't angry or jealous at all. "I'm sure you'll be a great mentor," she smiled at him. Laurelpaw turned her gaze away as she heard a small intake of breath from beside her. Glancing at her sister, she followed her gaze and saw Autumnstar approaching them. "You do know that you've both got great mentors?" she asked both of them. But though she still addressed both of them, her next words seemed to be for Laurelpaw alone. "There is a reason I didn't want to mentor you, you know. You've got loads of confidence and energy, you've got your sister as a friend but Mistpaw is shy. He's not that popular. Think of how great he feels right now! Anyway, Dustfang will teach you how to be patient. With me, you'd only get more restless. You'd expect miracles, or me to teach you to fly because I'm Clan Leader! But don't forget, I'm only a cat too." Laurelpaw opened her mouth, closed it again... she wanted to protest, to say it wasn't true, that she was perfectly fine with her mentor... but due to the apparant cementing of her jaws, all Laurelpaw could do was stare mutely back at Autumnstar, and, though she didn't know it, her eyes said everything for her.
Larchpaw opened her mouth to repeat what she had said to her sister, but was interrupted as Dustfang padded up. Listening to the conversation, she winced at the subtle sound of anger in Laurelpaw's voice, as if it was this warrior's fault that she had gotten him and not Autumnstar for her mentor. Looking away, Larchpaw gasped: Autumnstar was walking in their direction. She felt Laurelpaw turn away from Dustfang towrads her, and could tell she was about to ask her a question, when she caught sight of the Clan leader too. Larchpaw felt her sister stiffen, and caught sight of claws sinking into the ground again. Autumnstar stopped in front of them; she began to speak, to reassure them that their mentors would be excellent for them. Then she began to talk to Laurelpaw, explaining why she didn't choose herself for mentor for Larch's sister... when Autumnstar had finished, Laurelpaw seemed about to speak, but then either wasn't able to, or didn't want to, or not trust herself to speak... or all three. When it became clear that Laurelpaw wasn't going to say anything, Larchpaw stepped in. "I'm sure we will be happy with our mentors, Autumnstar. We wouldn't question your desicisions for us." Smiling at the leader, she pushed her sister away, towrads the apprentice's den where, she hoped, she could calm her jealous sister down.

Autumnstar smiled and dipped her head to the two apprentices and padded away towards the fresh-kill pile. She picked up a small chaffinch and slowly ate it. She watched Mistpaw out of the corner of her eye and considered what he'd be like as an apprentice. She figured that he'd be good at stalking, slightly weaker at fighting but he'd be fast and wry. She smiled and began to plan out the training session.
OoC|| I'll make a thread for the training.
