A brown tom sat in the Secret Woodland, waiting for his apprentice, Laurelpaw. I have an apprentice! He thought excitedly, for the thousandth time. He shook himself. Stop daydreaming! He scolded himself. Laurelpaw is gonna come and find you staring into space! He looked around again and scented many different prey. Good! Today is a good day for hunting. I wonder if Laurelpaw will ever like me... He couldn't help himself over-think again. Today was a clear day, to good to be wasted on empty thoughts! He kept thinking about Laurelpaw and how she had acted when he was named her mentor. He wondered if he should stop thinking before Laurelpaw came and thought maybe he should to think of boring subjects. He decided that was probably a good idea.

A small red-colored cat made her way quietly through the trees, the soft pine needles muffling her pawsteps. Laurelpaw had agreed to meet her mentor here in the wood, but now she was wondering if it had been a good idea. She liked Dustfang, but she still didn't know quite what to think, or to act like. Mistpaw- that piece of- No, you can't think like that, Laurelpaw scolded herself. It was perfectly reasonable that Autumnstar had wanted to mentor Mistpaw rather than her. By now, Laurelpaw had caught sight of her mentor sitting between two trees. Come on, you can do this, he'll be a great mentor, she thought fiercly to herself. Padding out into view, she dipped her head respectfully to him. "Hello, Dustfang," she mewed.

Dustfang grinned. "Hey, Laurelpaw!" He said. His yellow eyes glowed happily. "Were going to practice hunting today." He mewed."Did I tell you that already?" He asked. "Oh, well. Watch me." He dropped into a crouch. "Now try to imitate me." He said. "Take you're time. Tell me when you think you're ready." He said and sat down calmly, but inside he was burning with exitement.

Laurelpaw sighed inwardly, then dropped into a crouch. She would have prefered they started out with fighting; Laurelpaw was just itching to practice the battle moves that the warriors fought with. "How's this?" she asked.

"Perfect! Good job!" Dustfang praised. He smiled at his apprentice. "Alright, now how to catch a bird." He continued on, showing and instucting Laurelpaw, trying to make it educational, but still interesting. He was determined to make her like him. He already liked her!
