Mudface sank back ontop his hauches and waited for Moongaze to emerge out form the undergrwoth. He scented the air and found fresh caught vole. A moment later, Moongaze emerged once more out of the underrtoth with a vole in her jaws. He ourred. It was a fas catch for Leaf-Fall! Well you are a great hunter! he called out to her.

"Thanks!", Moongaze called through her prey as she approached the other warrior. "This one didn't even notice me coming - it's as if it wanted to be caught!" She chuckled to herself, dropping her catch at her paws as she began to dig a hole to put it in. "Let's see you in action then", she said to Mudface. She had a feeling that he was a great hunter too, but she wanted to see for herself.

Mudface shuddered at her words. Yes, he had action but not just hunting. He could fight. He had told no one, but he was a killer. Wort of all, he was the only one that knew. IT was a haveay burden on his shoulders and a pice of crowfood in his stomach. He unsheated his claws and hung his head. But I had to! he argueed with his thoughts.
Pushing the threatning thoughts way, he scented the air. IT was still, but full of preyscent. Nearby, a plump squrrel burried acorns nearby. He crouched and stalked towards it. The tiny critter must have been blind not to see him! At the last moment, Mudface lunged, grasping the critter in his claws and biting into its windpipe quicly. Slowly, it died in his paws. Just like that other cat.
HE quickly dripped the critter and backed away, eyes wide in fear. You see? ou are a killer! his mind yowled at him. HE kneaded the ground and whispered back so low that he was almost sure even StarClan couldn't hear him, I am a killer of prey. A hunter. Not a cat killer. THen he hung his head and picked up the critter half heartlydly. HE could have sworn that a voice inside his head was laughing at him.

"That was a good catch too", meowed Moongaze, padding up towards the tom. She looked at him with a slightly puzzled expression on her face, as if she was wondering what was running through his head. She gave herself a quick shake to snap herself out of the trance. "Next one's mine I guess." As she spoke, Moongaze noticed a small mouse out of the corner of her eye. It was close - very close. Only a couple of fox-lengths away. Hardly daring to breath, Moongaze began to glide across the ground towards it. She was so close now....
Suddenly the mouse's scent was lost in the breeze. The wind had changed direction! Before the black-and-white she-cat could move a muscles the mouse whirled around, spotted her, and made a dash for safety. Moongaze lunged out and tried to grab the creature's tail, but it didn't make a difference. The warrior padded back towards Mudface, holding back words of fury and rage.

Mudface shook his cranium when Moongaze missed. Well, we cant get them all can we? HE shuckled slightly and grinned, trying to hide his inner thoiughts and the voice that soke within him. The voice of a long gone tom.

"No, we can't", Moongaze agreed. Mudface's reassurance has cheered her up slightly. Smiling, she sat down and gave her fore paw a couple of licks before drawing it across her face. Her thoughts lingered to her memories. She didn't bother trying to stop them. They were mainly happy anyway. Nothing haunted her day and night - except that the shyness from her younger days had prevented her fulfilling something that she'd really wanted to do. The scent of prey brought her back to hunting. She stood up and gave herself a shake. "Your turn then", she meowed.

Sinking into a hunters cruch, Mudface stalked a nearby vole. He was a tail length behind it! He stomped full force onto the stick it was on, sending it up into the air. HE caught it inn his jaws and turn to the she-cat. A trcik he had learned as a kit! Except he had used it to survive! He shook the thoughts away and padded over to Moongaze. Just some tricks from before... HE didn't finish and looked at his paws.

Moongaze raised her eyebrows, impressed. "That's neat", she meowed, "I'd like to try it." Checking the scents around her, the she-cat slowly crept forward, following the trail of a mouse. Turning around a clump of bracken, Moongaze saw the creature feasting on some nuts at the base of a tall tree. Lowering herself to a hunter's crouch, she glided forward carefully. At the last possible moment, her paw struck out and hit the base of the stick below it. The mouse was sent flying into the air, landing on her outstretched paw, where she quickly finished it off. She padded back to Mudface with a triumphant grin on her face, the mouse dangling from her jaws. "How was that?" she asked him.

Mudface purred. Outstanding for a first try! You should have seen me try as a kit Just it wasn't used on mice He didn't add this last part. Instead, he crouched and walked towards a vole. HE sighed when it spotted him and waddeled away. Well, at least they had caught loads of fresh kill!

"Thanks!" Moongaze grinned once more; something that he really did. Usually all that you saw was a small smile pasted on her face. The she-cat dropped the mouse and began to scrape dirt over it. She paused. "Do you think that's enough?" she meowed. "We should probably take it a bit closer to camp. Then we can hunt some more, but we don't have to carry it all quite so far."

Mudface smiled. Yes, let us take it back to camp. That would be a great idea! He picked up some freshikill in his jaws, standing back up and flicking his tail towards the rest. It might take them a while! But atleast they had loads of prey!

Smiling, Moongaze quickly dug up the prey that she'd caught before. It only just fit in her jaws, and felt rather heavy. Flicking her tail to show that she was ready to move, Moongaze began to walk in the direction of the camp. Her catch made it impossible for the she-cat to speak, and completely overwhelmed her scent glands. The warriors would have to be extra careful since they'd pretty much lost their sense of smell.

Mudface followe dwith his mouthfull of fresh-kill. HE unsheathed his claws for protecton and flicked his audits at every step. He breathed in no scents but mouse and vole. Hopefully there are no suprises! he thought with a pang of fear.
