Nightmares or reality??(gray post here)

[Vampirecat]

Silent paws carried a black and white she-cat up a grey rocky slope. The sents were unfamiler to the cat. Her dark blue eyes searched the landscape trying to figure out where she was and why her paws had carried her here. Then her mouthg fell open as in front of her sat a huge creature. It had crimson scales and reminded the Shadowclan cat of the lizzards that she caught in her territory. Except this was bigger, much bigger, the size of a twoleg nest. It had huge horns and large leathery wings unfurled from the beast's back. Fire blew from her nostrils and she held her head high. The big creature looked so powerful and so fierce.

Then the picture changed. The big red monster looked different. It looked sad almost. The beast sat on somthing that Ebonyflame could work out to be an egg. It must be a mother. Ebonyflame told herself. The great lizzard no longer looked magnificent. Not with an egg beneath her. Her wings drooped and her fire had stopped.

Then the picture changed again. The dragon's headless body lay beside the bodies of her headless young. They had been slaugtered.

Ebonyflame awoke with a jolt. Her claws were digging into the moss which she slept on. That dream scared her. Although she is not a medicine cat Ebonyflame knew that that dream was not from starclan but from her own fears. She feared that her kits would get her killed. Still, she would go to Firestone and see if he had had any signs from Starclan about the kits.
She sped her way through the clearing, not checking to see if other cats had noticed her exsistance. "Firestone!" She called bursting through the entrance. She was slightly swollen now and it slowed her alittle. She would have to tell Raspthroat soon. With his bad eyesight he hadn't noticed yet.

Firestone, curled up in his little nest for a sleep, quickly awakened at the terrified voice of his secrect mate. Edbonyflame! He quickly got up, shaking debris form his body. A shiver went down his spine. "Edbonyfalme! What is wrong? Tell me!"

He ran right up to the queen, nuzzling her side. She was getting bigger every day, and he was surprised that no one had said anything. Then again, he had been holed up in his den, getting things ready for the worst. HE swallowe,d gazing into her eyes with wonder. She really did look scared.

"Did someone guess? Does someone know? Are you hurt? Did Mudface do something?" HE asked, flicking his tial over her, looknig for any wounds of any sort. He thought again about his dreamless sleeps. Was StarClan made at him? Was this a sign that they had blocked him?

Forget StarClan! You don't need them! They are worthless! He thought to himself. Hey, if they were giving up on him, then he was done with them. WHo had ever thought up these stupid pathticx warrior codes anyway? He growled in his chest, and closed his eyes. WHy was life so hard?

"No no, no one guessed." She said sharply, nuzzling him back. "It's just, have Starclan sent anything to you, you know, about the kits." She spoke nervously, she didn't often speak about Starclan. Although she believed in her warrior ancestors and was defiantly faithful to them, she still had trouble talking to others about them. She gazed at him with troubled eyes. "Also, we are going to have to tell Raspthroat soon, he is as blind as a bat and hasn't noticed yet." She said looking at her swollen belly as she lay down on the floor of the den.

Thet om let out an audible sigh, then, turned away from Edbonyflame when she asked about StarClan. "No, nothing." He said. He hoped she thought his voice shook of worry for the kits. The truth? StarClan hadn't sent him anything since the first few moons since he had become medicine cat. Had he done something wrong? You are the father of kits, stupid! YOu broke these cats prescioud code! COurse you did something wrong! Is he could have, he would have strangled his concious. Who really cares about the code? Look what it has done! Nothing but wreck somehthing that could have been great. He scremed back in his mind. He padded over to his store, preteneding to straingten things up. "So, that elder hasn't noticed anything as of yet? Why not have Mudface tell him?" He asked. In a way, this was a way of testing the mud colored tom-cat. He knew he hated other toms for some unkown reason, so if he could talk calmly to Raspthroat, then he woul dbe able to raise kits that might be toms.

Ebonyflame gave a small chuckle and shook her black and white head slowly. "That elder," She purred "Is my grandfather. And sure, he may be old but I wouldn't put it past him to attack Mudface. Raspthroat knows that I never intended to have kits, he'll presume that Mudface got me pregnant against my will. He may be old but he used to be a top fighter, I should know, he was my mentor." She stood up briskly, walked over to Firestone so that she was only a minuscule amount away from his face. A deep purring growled in her chest, it sounded like a great tiger from Tigerclan, one of the old and ancient clans. "I think that you should be there when we tell him. He won't question your presence. He knows nothing of pregnancy or being a medicine cat. As far as he's concerned its alright if your beside me until the kits are warriors." Her blue eyes shone in the dim light that was now creeping from behind a cloud. The golden light made them form into slits. It also made her scars on her tattered pelt become even more visible. Two scars coming down her right eye were very prominent. One came down from the side of her right ear. If you drew a red line on down it would meet with the scars on her eye. She also had three curved claw marks across her black nose and two deep red lines came down her left shoulder. She looked a real mess and not attractive at all. "Why do you love me?"She said quietly to him without thinking."I'm such a horrid, messed up... thing." She looked utterly confused as she mewed, "I mean, the time we first spoke, I was killing a mouse in a cruel and barbaric way??!!You know I love you, don't you?"

Firestone dipped his head, listening to Ebonyflame speak.

"That elder," She purred "Is my grandfather. And sure, he may be old but I wouldn't put it past him to attack Mudface. Raspthroat knows that I never intended to have kits, he'll presume that Mudface got me pregnant against my will. He may be old but he used to be a top fighter, I should know, he was my mentor."

She walked over to him then, she he took in her sweet scent. He watched the light catch her scas, and they reminded him of his own. The many narrow and think ones. Large and small. A thick scar runs above Firestone's eyes, makeing them narrow. Many smaller scars run down his back and one thin long scar goes down his right front leg in a spiral-like shape. Another thin scar runs from his chin and curves around his stone marking. Firestone's scars distort his face and stech with each step. He closed his amber eyes, looking away, listening to her talk.

"I think that you should be there when we tell him. He won't question your presence. He knows nothing of pregnancy or being a medicine cat. As far as he's concerned its alright if your beside me until the kits are warriors."

As she said this, he turned to face her.

"Are we going to tell the kits who their real father is?"

He asked anxiously.

"Or will they grow up thinking they are kin of Mudface, and I am just their heaker?"

He bit his lip, a hot tear running down his cheek. Then his ears caught her words, her softly uttered words.

"Why do you love me?" She said quietly to him. "I'm such a horrid, messed up... thing." She looked utterly confused as she mewed more to him. "I mean, the time we first spoke, I was killing a mouse in a cruel and barbaric way! You know I love you, don't you?"

Firestone touched his nose gently to her's, looking deep into her eyes.

Edbonyflame, you are more beautiful then me. Even though you killed that mouse, you still can love me. You taught me to love again."

He said gently.

Ebonyflame listened to him ask about the kits. She starred unblinking into his eyes. "I think we should tell them. I mean, I hardly doubt they would turn us in." She gave a small chuckle like purr. Then he cried, it almost killed her to see him cry. She had two dig her claws into the ground to stop herself from wailing in agony. She listened, aqua tears forming in her deep blue eyes. Did he truly mean it, after all she had done, after what she was. "Every one hates me." She said softly. "And, just for one second I hoped that I could love. But I never thought.... no... never imagined that it would be anything like this..." She rubbed her ebony and white head against his, closing her eyes and drawing in his sent. " And if Starclan send foxes to rip my throat out I won't care because, all that pain, all that sheer heart stopping agony would be worth being here right now, just smelling your scent." She pressed herself agaisnt him, never wanting to forget this moment.

Firestone rested his head against Edbonyflamae's, and decided it was time to tell her a little bit about him, even if she stopped loving him for it.

"I was the son of the TerrorClan leader, well, one of them. I never met my mother. She was just a slave. I was raised by the Head Queen, and I was brought up harshy. She these scars?"

He backed away, flicking his tail towards his scar ridden body.

"Most of them are form training as a kit! Not an apprentice. A kit. I grew up thikning I would just become the next leader, but then there was a huge battle. I did th eonly thnig I knew how to do. I..." He paused, and forced himself to look right at his mate. "I killed, Edbonyflame. I had to. How else would I live? My Clan ended up getting destryed, and I ran away. SunCLan and AllyClan almost killed me. But I made it here, half dead. And you....you made me alive again. You gave meaning to my life."

He said, despretly hoping that she wouldn't hate him. It was the only thing he was trained to do, why should he be hated? Hate Spike, his father.

Ebonyflame didn't look at him as he spoke, she was still nestled in his fur. She was listening intently though. She thought about what he was saying thoughly. She raised her head and looked at him with, confused and sorrowful eyes. She looked at the toms scars, thinking with pity as he spoke about training as a kit. Tears filled her eyes once more as she looked at him. When he finished speaking she walked closer to him, her head slightly lowered and her head slightly down, she walked even closer so that she was a claw length from his face. " I doesn't matter who you were. Its who you are now. And now you're a great Medicine cat and a wonderful father.Remember I told you about my brother? Fogpaw. I understand, how you feel." She touched noses with him. Then ran her body across his. "Its OK. It doesn't matter what happened in your past. We've got the future to look forward to now." She said motioning with her tail to her belly.

The tom felt as if a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulder, allowing him to breath easier. And, for the first time in his life, he felt like he could feel StarClan's love surronding him and his mate. Mate.... Just thinking the word sent shivers down his spine. He had defied the warrior code, recking everything these cats had come ot hold dear to them. He had made Edbonyflame have his kits, although they both wanted them. How could things be any more confuzing? He shook his head and sighed as Edbonyflame began to talk.

"I doesn't matter who you were. Its who you are now. And now you're a great Medicine cat and a wonderful father.Remember I told you about my brother? Fogpaw. I understand, how you feel." she touched her nose to his, running her body along his, sending chills through his bloodstream. "Its OK. It doesn't matter what happened in your past. We've got the future to look forward to now." She indicated her belly.

"You are right, my love. Let's not worry about the bad at the moment, and focuse on the kits. And on how to tell Raspthroat." he said, his voice going down to a near whisper and he mentioned the elder's name.

Ebonyflame turned thoughtful. She looked up at the sky. Leaf-bare Clouds swept across it. It would snow today. Anyway... how could they tell Raspthroat. What was the best way of breaking to her elderly Grandfather that she was pregnant. She had no idea. "Emmmmm..... mabey... no, no that wouldn't go down well.. emmm. We should probably... wait, no... lets... ehhh. Darn I can't think. How to tell a cranky old half dead elder that his grandaugther is going to have kits." She licked her paw and pulled it across her ear then suddenly stopped. "I know!! Well you could come with me and Mudface. I'll go in first to see that he is up and in an ok mood, cause if hes not he'll rip me to shreds before you could say mouse. Ill bring him some fresh kill to cheer him up. I'll explain to him about the kits alone... no wait, he will think Mudface a coward if he isn't there when I break the news. Mudface can come in too, we'll just have to warn him to stand well clear but I think every cat in Shadowclan knows of his fierce temper." She chuckled.
"We shall tell him together, and like I said before, you can be there from the start If you wan't, he shouldn't ask questions. Hopefully he'll be happy. I mean he'll have great-grandkits. All we can do is try." She stood up on unstable legs. "Cummon, lets go get Mudface."
