A grey she-cat whose pelt bore many black stripes slipped out of the forest and onto the Endless Plains. Ashpelt glanced around and then sat to wait for her apprentice. She was very excited to be training an apprentice at last, she had always wanted one, and now her wish had been filled. She twitched her tail a little impatiently as she waited for her apprentice to appear. As she waited she thought of what she could traing him on his first day. She smiled, remembering her first training, how nervous she had been! She chuckled and twitched her ears, amused with her memories.

Thunderpaw glanced from side to aide before rushing to his mentor. His paws made too much noise and he tripped, landing in a heap infront of Ashpelt. Embaressed, he stood up, only to fall again.

[{try to make your posts longer. =)}]
Ashpelt smiled as the tom fell in a heap in front of her. 'Hello there, you ready to start?' She got to her paws. 'I think we'll start out with a few fighting tactics, how does that sound to you?' She thought that that was the best thing, what use would hunting be if one got attacked while they were hunting, or if their camp was attacked. Fighting was the most important thing to know to her, for without it you wouldn't last long in her opinion. She waited for her apprentice to answer, wanting to make this as fun as possible for him.

Ashpelt smiled. 'Okay, first things first, you'll need to know how to defend yourself. Say on your tiptoes, it'll help you move faster. Next pin your ears back on your head as well as you can, ears are usually the first target that is aimed for. One, because they are unprotected, two because they cause a good amount of pain. Remember that for if you are ever in a fight, aim for the ears.' She crouched a little. 'A lot of times an enemy will try to confuse you by circling around one way and then quickly changing directions and jumping on you. So don't just use your eyes, use your ears too.' She started creeping to the side. 'Watch me.' She directed as she kept moving to the side, and then quickly changed directions a few times.

Thunderpaw pinned his ears with a lopsided grin. When his mentor told him to watch her, he spun in a circle. He was good at it, untill she got all fancy with the changing directions and everything. Them he got disy and tripped over himself....again.
"Um, maybe if you could, ya know, go a little slower?....." He trailed off, gathering himself up once more. His ears were no longer pinned, but rather aimed right at Ashpelt.

Ashpelt smiled. 'Did well until I started changing direction, but an enemy wouldn't go slower if you asked them to.' She chuckled. 'Okay, try to attack me. Try to get on my back, that is the best advantage you can have against a cat, especially if it is bigger than you.' She crouched and watched him silently, nothing moving but her eyes, and the end of her tail which twitched every few seconds. Her ears were intent on Thunderpaw, curious as to how well he would do.

Thunderpaw moved foward quckly, heading strait for her underbelly, but then hastly changed directions and pawed at her side, claws sheathed of course. He didn't really know how to fight, and was trying to make a plan to get on her back swiftly.

Ashpelt batted at Thunderpaw’s head with a smile. She stayed crouched low to the ground though, staying on her tiptoes and keeping her eyes fixed on Thunderpaw. ‘Keep trying to get on my back, you’ll most likely have to jump. I don’t think you’ll be able to make it by just walking up it since I’m bigger than you.’ She smiled at her apprentice and twitched her tail over the leaf covered ground, disturbing one leaf and sending it flying into the air.

Thunderpaw nodded then ran behind his mentor. He calculated the distance, then sprang, aiming for her back. His claws were sheathed, he didn't want to hurt anyone! If I land corretly, thwen whta? he puzz;ed. A frown ovoercame his face and he was distracted. hi im...what we talking bout?

Ashpelt flicked her tail and smiled as she saw Thunderpaw go around behind her. She held still, deciding that it would be better for him to feel success than defeat. As she felt him on her she twisted her head around with an approving smile. ‘Good job.’ A mischievous gleam came into her eye before she sat down, knowing that it would be nigh impossible for Thunderpaw to hold on since he had his claws sheathed.

"Yikes!" he yelped as he slid off of his mentors back. He laughed and pounced on her tail, knowing that if a cat's tail was bitten in battle, it would leave him in pain. He licked it instead of biteing it, not wanting to hurt Ashpelt.

Ashpelt chuckled as her apprentice slid off of her back and onto the ground. She craned her head to look at him and chuckled again as she saw him licking her tail. She stood up, flicking her tail neatly away from him. ‘Good job. You’ll be able to hold on better if you use your claws, but you were right in not using them in practice.’ She shook her pelt. ‘Pinning your opponent down is another thing you can do to give yourself an advantage. Ears, tails, bellies, faces, and necks are the most sensitive places and so inflict a lot of pain on whoever gets scratched or bit there. Protect those places well, especially the back of your neck.’

Thunderpaw nodded to show he was listening. "Got it!" he mewoed. He sat down and curled his tail gently around his paws. "Shoud we try huntinng now, or more fights?" He gazed up at Ashpelt, his eyes full of respexct. He hoped he was as good as she was when he became a warrior!

Ashpelt smiled. 'Let's do some hunting. Now I'm sure you've done some hunting already, since you haven't had a mentor for a little. I want you to go out, hunt, and I will be watching you to see how well you do and to see where you might need improvement.' She nodded to him and then leaped away into the bushes. She circled back around though and scaled a tree quickly and quietly, keeping her grey eyes on her apprentice.
