"Come along." Windfleet bounded ahead of Tigerpaw, her ears pricked for any signs of other cats. She was taking out her apprentice for the first time, and she wished for no other cats in the Clan to be present, for Windfleet preferred to train alone. Finally, she stopped where the ground dipped slightly, creating a small hollow. Looking around, she nodded in approval. "This is a good place." she turned towards Tigerpaw. "Are you ready?" she asked him, her eyes glowing in what one could be called dangerously.

Tigerpaw bounced happily after his mentor. 'What are we gonna do first?' He meowed, bouncing from side to side instead of sitting still. He was bursting with energy and excitement, as he usually was. He never seemed to be able to sit still, even having trouble sleeping at times. 'Huh huh? What're we gonna do first?' His bright green eyes danced as his orange tabby paws pranced all over the ground around Windfleet. This behavior was common with him, always seeming to 'have ants in his pants', and more than once cats had shaken their heads and wondered if anything would be able to be made of him.

Windfleet watched Tigerpaw, her eyes narrowed. Suddenly, without giving any warning to the younger cat, she flung herself forward, tackling him, paws batting at his soft stomach. "I fight hard, and in whatever way I think will teach you the most." she yelled into the din. "Be ready for that. We will begin with fighting." she slipped around him, tripped him up with her paw, and pounced on him, her claws out far enough to lightly prick his skin through the fur. "First rule is- always stay alert. You will be of no help to your Clan in a battle if you just stand their bouncing excitedly. Eventually, you will become aware enough of the things around you that you will be able to fight two at once." so saying, she jumped away for Tigerpaw to regain his balance. Her fur was smooth and unruffled, and she stared at her apprentice with impassive eyes. "Prepare," she said, "For foul play." and she sprung upon him again, her paws hitting his side. "A cat will not ask you permission to attack you. He just will, even if- especially if- you are fighting another. You will be taught to defend yourself from two, later in your training. But not now." once again she pinned him down, eyes glowing with... laughter. Windfleet was enjoying this. "Now-" she said, drawing back suddenly. "Defend yourself from me, using the first rule- always stay alert. Prepare for foul play." she began to circle around him, her tail lashing. "Ready?" she smiled at him, still circling. "I hope you are..." and she continued to circle.

Tigerpaw looked bewildered at his mentor and shook his head. 'Yeah, I'm ready.' His green eyes glinted. If that's how she plays then she'd better get ready! He grinned and crouched, he had batted her when she hit his side, having been ready for that one, and he was determined to be a great fighter. He remembered what his sister had told him, huh, Quickpaw always knew so much, having listened in on other apprentice trainings before. Keep your paws light on the ground, keep on your toes, keep your eyes on targetm arch your back. He did this now, bouncing a little to keep facing his mentor. He laid his ears back, remembering his sister saying that they'd be first target in a fight.
He grinned as he remembered his sister's teaching, he was now glad that he had listened.

Windfleet circled around one more time- then sprang, her leap carrying her straight over the apprentice's head. Skidding to a halt, she spun and attacked his flank. How he would respond would be his problem- she wouldn't really hurt him. But she could already tell that Tigerpaw had great fighting potential- if the paw in her ribs was any indication. He would be ready for her- how ready, she wasn't sure, but ready enough.

Tigerpaw reared up on his hind legs and tried to swat at Windfleet as she went over his head. As she aimed for his flank he jumped to the side and batted at her head, and tried to get a grip on her scruff also as he twisted around. He braced his back legs and tried to push her over, or knock her off balance, or something to give him an advantage. His orange tabby pelt had fluffed up a little in the excitement of it all, and his green eyes blazed happily. Fighting! I'm actually training with a mentor! The thought was exciting.

Windfleet gasped slightly as she felt his paws slam into her hind legs, knocking her temporarily off balance. Drawing away, she grinned at him. "Very good. Amazing, in fact, for a first try." she watched him, eyes narrowed slightly. After giving him a few moments to recollect himself, she said calmly- "Now, we are going to see how well you can attack." Windfleet grinned. "So... attack me."

Tigerpaw grinned at her praise. 'Thanks, me and my friends practiced a lot, and my sister liked to listen in on other apprentice's training. He crouched and started to circle Windfleet. Then he launched himself at her, front paws outstretched as his eyes fixed on his target. His tail waved slightly, helping him keep balanced in the air. His sister was much better at this sort of thing than he was, he noted to himself. She had earned her name Quickpaw, she was the quickest cat he had ever seen, and so was rather hard to fight.

She twisted aside swiftly, avoiding Tigerpaw as he came crashing down to earth. "Nice," she said approvingly. "But remember in the future to not fix your gaze so firmly on the target you're attacking. I could tell when you would be leaping- and where- by the look in your eyes. Now, try again, this time focusing on me but not showing that you're focusing on me. Here, let me show you-" her eyes wandered for a second, scoping out the area around Tigerpaw, then fixed right above Tigerpaw's head. She sprung almost as soon as she chose her target, and most cats would have been caught unawares by the leap. She landed right behind Tigerpaw and turned around, smiling at him. "There," she said. "Now try it."

Tigerpaw was by no means saddened by the fact he hadn't made contact at his first try, he hadn't really expected to. He grinned and nodded as he was told to try out the new trick. He looked around, trying to not focus completely on one thing, before finally fixing his gaze on Windfleet's front paws. He jumped, but not for her paws, he jumped straight at her shoulder and tried to run against her. He couldn't wait to use this new tactic on his friends when they practice fought, wouldn't Quickpaw be surprised?! He grinned at the thought as he jumped at his mentor.

Windfleet braced herself as Tigerpaw's eyes fixed on her paws. He flung himself forward, and she danced back and sideways, avoiding him but not quite missing him either- her shoulder grazed his paws. "Good job," she praised her apprentice. "An enemy cat wouldn't have had a chance. The ruse was well played out." she grinned at him, then stretched. "All right," she mewed. "Normally an apprentice wouldn't be taught how to pin an enemy down yet, but your coming along so fast I'm making an exception." Windfleet sat down, then added "Unless you'd prefer to keep working on basic attacking techniques and defense."

Tigerpaw grinned. 'As long as I'm doin' something I'm happy!' He danced to the side, paws never still. He kept an eye on Windfleet, almost expecting her to pull something again. He stopped bouncing for only a moment, doing his best to make himself stay still, but he failed. He just couldn't stop, he was excited, and he never could sit still very easily. He flicked the tip of his tail over the ground and bounced to the side, and then backwards, almost tripping over a stick in the process, and then he bounced forward again.

Windfleet purred in amusement as she saw her apprentice bouncing around. She watched him for a few moments, then stood up. "All right, then," she mewed. "How about we start with you telling me what you know about pinning cats down, then we'll work of that?" her head tipped slightly to one side. "It shouldn't be hard for you. I think, in fact, after watching all those apprentices training when you were a kit, it'll be a breeze." she fell silent, nodding once to tell him he could start anytime.

Tigerpaw grinned. 'I never did watch 'em. My sister always did and then she'd tell me about it.' He grinned. 'All I know about pinning cats down is that ya run 'em over and then sit on 'em.' He grinned. With his large size that was all he usually had to do when he fought with his fellow apprentices. His eyes stared at Windfleet. 'Run 'em over like this!' He ran at his mentor and then squared his shoulder at the last minute to try and ram it into hers and so knock her off balance.

Windfleet twisted aside easily, watching as Tigerpaw went barreling past her. "Interesting technique," she mewed, trying to keep from laughing. "Of course, many cats will kick you into the sky before you even have a chance of running over them." she sat down, and motioned Tigerpaw to do the same. "Now," Windfleet began, "There is one important thing that you need to know before trying to pin down an opponent. Might you have any idea what it is?"
